Stefania Bonfadelli (soprano)Born in Verona, she started at very young age the study of piano and singing in her city, and continued it in Paris and Vienna. Stefania Bonfadelli is specialising under the guidance of Margareth Backer.
Stefania Bonfadelli is a lyric coloratura soprano whose repertoire spans from the Belcanto operas by Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini, such as La sonnambula, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore, Il turco in Italia, Il viaggio a Reims, to French operas (Massenet’s Manon, Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, Poulenc’s Les dialogues des Carmélites, Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann), and to the Verdian roles Gilda (Rigoletto), Violetta (La traviata), Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Nannetta (Falstaff), Amalia (I Masnadieri).
After her international debut with I puritani at the Wiener Staatsoper in 1997, her extensive career has brought her to perform in such theatrical institutions as the Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Oper Frankfurt, the Opéra de Marseille, the Concertgebouw and the Nederlanse Opera in Amsterdam, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Detroit Michigan Opera Theatre, the Teatro alla Scala, the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Verdi di Trieste, the Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
Stefania Bonfadelli enjoys a continuous collaboration with the Wiener Staatsoper, where she sang in such operas as Guglielmo Tell, Lucia di Lammermoor, La traviata, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La sonnambula, Roméo et Juliette, Rigoletto, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Così fan tutte.
She has portrayed with success the role of Violetta at Covent Garden in London, at the Teatro Verdi di Busseto (Placido Domingo conductor, Franco Zeffirelli director), at the Opernhaus in Zurich, at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, at Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo, at the Finnish National Opera of Helsinki, in Munich and on a tour to Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow with the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini di Parma. She has sang La sonnambula (Amina ) at the Teatro alla Scala and at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania; I Puritani (Elvira ) at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania and in Liège; Lucia di Lammermoor in Berlin, in Avignon and in Genoa; Les dialogues des Carmélites (Constance) at the Teatro alla Scala and in Vienna with Riccardo Muti.
She made her debuts in the role of Despina in Così fan tutte in Tokyo (under the baton of Seiji Ozawa) and at the Rossini Opera Festival as Lisetta in La Gazzetta. She returned to the Rossini Opera Festival of Pesaro in 2003 for singing in the role of Adèle in Le Comte Ory, under the baton of Lopez Cobos. In this same role, she has been heard in Bologna and Reggio Emilia. Among her performances in 2005-2006 season it’s worth mentioning a Japan tour with Teatro Comunale di Bologna (La fille du régiment), with the Teatro Bellini di Catania (La Sonnambula), and with the Teatro Comunale di Firenze (Falstaff) under the baton of Zubin Mehta, La traviata at the National Opera of Korea in Seoul. She also appears in recital at the Frankfurt Alter Oper and in Montreux taking part in a Christmas Concert with José Cura, Kiri Te Kanawa, Dionne Warwick conducted by Edoardo Ponti.
Highlights of Stefania Bonfadelli’s future engagements include Don Pasquale (Norina) at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Fille du régiment in Bilbao, La fille du régiment (Marie) at the Washington Opera, La Traviata at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
